Equal parts seat and surface, the Nelson Platform Bench emerged from George Nelson Fortune magazine office to join his first Herman Miller Collection in 1946. Made with polished chrome or ebonized wood legs, and available in three lengths with a choice of finishes, it serves as a bench, low table, or foundation for the Basic Cabinet Series.

Nelson originally designed the Platform Bench for his New York office. The idea was that sitting on a slatted bench would discourage visitors from staying too long. Eight decades later, it's the bench that has stuck around. Today it's considered one of the true icons of mid-century design
