The Capitello chaise longue, Attica, armchair, and Attica TL coffee table are modern archaeological artifacts that may be kept outside in the weather owing to a special finish that is also suitable for outdoor usage. Or at institutions such as the Louvre and the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. The armchair is made of polyurethane foam and latex rubber and reclines towards the ground, enabling the user to relax in the flawlessly curved seat, which is based on the shape of a Greek Capital column. The chair may be used alone or in conjunction with the complementing stool and sofa to create the ideal set. The chair’s robust frame can by utilized in any indoor location, such as a kitchen, conservatory, or patio, and its heigh of 120cm makes it ideal for resting. The look of this massive tableau is inspired by the Parthenon’s marble, but contrasted with the lightness and softness of polyurethane, which ensures absolute comfort and ergonomic function.
They are based on the size and forms of the Erechteion columns on the Acropolis in Athens. They are “light” archaeological findings that can be readily carried since they are constructed of polyurethane. Gufram was able to turn the Acropolis’ pentelic marble into soft and pleasant furniture. They can also be left outside, similar to genuine Greek ruins, owing to the Guflac Ultra treatment, which allows polyurethane to seem like leather while also making it more robust during other weather conditions.
The original mold from the ‘70s is still being used to make Capitello. Attica and Attica TL are made from a hand-sculpted block of polyurethane, similar to the Erechteion’s columns. One of the pieces is housed at the Louvre’s Decorative Arts Department, alongside the Nike of Samothrace. The Metropolitan Museum of New York, the Centre Pompidou in Paris, and the Denver Art Museum all have it in their respective permanent collections.
